Cocoon Hotel
The design concept derives from a grand question: Are we locking ourselves in our own cocoons? We are so absorbed in the familiar routine of life, of daily work pressure, that we forget to find a quiet time to talk to ourselves? Stemming from the above concerns, D1 employs the image of "cocoon" to create this work, to encourage people to return to themselves.
The heart of the project is the "cocoon core" which is also the atrium. D1 Group Architects wishes the centerpiece of the space to be bold, different, and thought-provoking. The cocoon core is comprised of nearly 300 small circles of different sizes, randomly combined to create a harmonious whole.
The spaces between the circles play an important role: welcoming natural lights and wind into the building. The architects ensure that every room in the hotel would be linked to the cocoon core, and that each room would have an unique design.
The public spaces beneath the building are expanded in two directions, and D1 Group Architects removes all unnecessary partitions, to create the visual effect of the cocoon floating in midair, as light as a cloud.
