87 Ngo Tat To – Coworking Space
Coworking Space 87 Ngo Tat To is not a 'renovation' project, but a mix-match between the old and new. The building is constructed from the frame of an old warehouse with industrial beauty. D1 Group Architects design orientation is to retain the old frame and reinforce its structure, adding heat and noise insulations, then integrate the coworking office blocks and support services such as F&B services to create a style that is retro yet strong and modern.
The 87 Ngo Tat To space encompasses 12 office blocks reconstructed from the old car factory. Time worn vestiges such as old corrugated iron roofs, roof tiles and old brick walls are retained and fused in with creative uses of recycled materials such as oil paper, insulating cotton, polycarbonate corrugated iron roofs, orchid planting mesh nets to provide economic-efficient heat insulation and soundproofing solutions.
Green spaces are interspersed between the building blocks to nurture the connection between the people of modern offices and nature. The walkway between the blocks is laced with greenery and frequent rest stops for people to walk, to interact and chat together, or simply to indulge in their own mind.
The 87 Ngo Tat To Coworking Space represents a new architectural trend - creative adaptive reuse construction. Not only providing a solution for the density problem in big cities, but this trend also helps breathe new lives into historical architectures, retaining their place in modern society and their relevance with today’s people.
Around the world, the practice of adaptive reuse has entered mainstream in today's architectural discourse, having been adopted in many countries through bold projects that converted old churches into restaurants, deserted train and abandoned silos into housing complex, and old factories into concert halls...Through the adaptive reuse model 87 Ngo Tat To, D1 Group Architects wish to promote sustainability, environmental friendliness, economic efficiency and contribute another project with socio-cultural values to our city.
