[+84] Season 19 Exhibition

The event took place from December 15, 2021 to December 18, 2021 at Thao Dien garden, Ho Chi Minh City.

The aesthetic space of Thao Dien Garden, these days, has gotten a little less quiet as the space is animated with the atmosphere of “Season 19” – the season of exhibition, dialogue and contemplation.

The event is organized by 5 architectural offices: D1 Architectural Studio, H.a workshop, K59 atelier, Tad. Atelier, and atelier Tho.a. The shared characteristics of these 5 offices is that they are all very young, and were founded by young founders, each with a different identity and persona.

The name of the exhibition evokes many meanings. [+84] is the area code of Vietnam, this exhibition signifies the beginning of a series of events taking place across the country, so that many more ‘Seasons’ may continue after Season 19. Another shade of meaning is that ‘Season 19’ refers to a time when the covid-19 pandemic disturbs daily life, in a fashion quite similar to the influence of two seasons Rain – Sunny, or four seasons Spring – Summer – Autumn – Winter in Vietnam.

Contributing to the exhibition with projects conceptualized during the past “distance” period and the current “new normal”, the studios wish to connect, to share positive energy with each other and with the community through this practice. It is the architects’ response to the ramifications of Covid-19. D1 Architectural contributed 3 prototypes that represent the new models that our company is developing: the luxury, yet culture-sensitive BMT Villa in Dak Lak, the ‘Garden/House’ model Soc Trang House and the hotel-cultural destination Phu Yen Hotel.

Through the works displayed in the exhibition, and through dialogue with the architect, the public can discover the diverse nuances of expression, learn about architectural concepts, explore the architecture discipline’s contribution to life, thereby realizing the inseparable relationship between architecture and the natural and social context, between the individual and the community.

“Season 19” or exhibition [+84] Season 19 marks a journey full of passion and experience of our brothers and sisters in 5 architectural offices. A journey to return, to create, to explore, to overcome, to break through barriers, and then…to return to oneself.

Like a chrysanthemum bud that blooms in the midst of winter, the projects in the exhibition are the crystallizations of our desire to create, filled with reflections and evocations – about the future of architecture and its practitioners, who are navigating through a ‘new normal’ full of upheavals.
